Duphaston is a medication consisting of the active ingredient dydrogesterone considered as a synthetic female sex hormone that resembles the naturally occurring sex hormone – progesterone. It is used in a wide range of menstrual disorders that results from a lack of progesterone in a female body. Dydrogesterone helps to regulate the healthy growth and normal shedding of the womb lining. Chiefly it can be used to treat: abdominal pain and bleeding during pregnancy (threatened miscarriage) or history of miscarriages (habitual abortion), abdominal pain associated with menstrual periods (dysmenorrhoea), absence of menstrual periods when taking estrogens, endometriosis, female infertility, irregular menstrual bleeding when taking estrogens, premenstrual syndrome.
Every symptom should be treated by following exact doctor’s instructions. In case of treating endometriosis, take 10 mg of Duphaston two or three times a day from 5th to 25th day of your cycle. To treat barrenness, take 10 mg a day from 14th to 25th day of your cycle. The process of treatment is done successively for three, six and more following cycles.
In case you are pregnant or breastfeed, consult your doctor before taking. A form of the estrogen treatment (hormone replacement therapy) is to be performed provided a general medical examination being completed, including also a pelvic examination and mammogram.
Due to occurrences of hypersensitivity to Duphaston, Dubin-Johnson syndrome (an increase of conjugated bilirubin without elevation of liver enzymes) or Rotor syndrome (a benign autosomal recessive bilirubin disorder) this medication cannot be taken.
Possible side effect
A range of potential side effects known to be associated with this medicine includes: sickness, vomiting, giddiness, swelling, skin reactions such as rash and itch, breast tenderness, menstrual spotting between periods.
